Jonathan D. Kaplan is of Counsel with Massey Law Group. His areas of practice include real property litigation, with an emphasis on tax deed sales and foreclosures, and civil litigation.
In 1981, Jonathan graduated with honors from the University of Illinois with a degree in history and political science. He is a 1984 graduate of the University of Miami School of Law, cum laude. Jonathan is licensed to practice in the courts of the State of Florida and the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Middle District of Florida, and he is a member of the Hillsborough County Bar Association.
From January 2006 through December 2016, Jonathan worked for the Clerk of Court for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in and for Hillsborough County Florida, where he served as legal liaison to the Tax Deed Sales Department and served as Director of the Tax Deed Sales Department from 2011 through 2014. While working for the Hillsborough County Clerk of Court, he was a contributing coauthor and editor of the Florida Clerk and Comptrollers Best Practices for Tax Deed Sales Volume I – Tax Deed Sales Processes, and Volume II – Distribution of Tax Deed Sales Excess Proceeds.
Jonathan has lectured on tax deed sales to the Florida Clerk and Comptroller’s Association throughout Florida, including teaching tax deed sales and excess proceeds distribution to newly elected clerks at the New Clerks Academy.
