Joseph “Joe” B. Shacter is Senior Counsel with Massey Law Group. Joe concentrates his legal practice in real estate and business transactions.
Joe received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Florida and was a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity. Part of his senior year in law school was spent as a Certified Legal Intern at the Public Defenders Offices in Alachua County, Florida. He is a Florida native, who has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1978 and a Certified Circuit Civil and County Mediator since 2007.
While a member of different corporate legal departments representing franchisors, Joe managed franchisor/franchisee relations and drafted documents and closed on numerous multi-million-dollar business sales, which transactions invariably included the sale or lease of commercial real estate. In his years of private practice, Joe has conducted hundreds of residential real estate closings and litigated countless collection, foreclosure, and tenant eviction cases.
As a Certified Circuit Civil Mediator, Joe has mediated numerous real estate and business transaction disputes. He was a member of the mediator panel for the Fourth Judicial Circuit Residential Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation Program, which provided for mandatory mediation in residential foreclosure cases. He is regularly called upon to mediate pre-suit homeowner and condominium association matters and other real estate disputes.
Joe has taught real estate Law for several semesters as an adjunct professor at Florida Community College at Jacksonville (now Florida State College at Jacksonville). In his spare time, Joe is both a teacher and a student of Cuong Nhu Martial Arts, in which he has attained the rank of Sandan, Third Degree Black Belt. He is currently the ranking instructor of Black Talon Dojo, which is the Osprey Cuong Nhu Club on the campus of the University of North Florida.
